“Before I came to The Fold my life was a mess – my mom didn’t trust me, my father was gone, I was hanging around the wrong crowd and I was in trouble with the law. It got to a point where my mom had no other choice than to send me away to a military school. It was a college prep school and my entire future was in it. I was on the football team and doing well for a while, but I eventually started to get involved with the wrong crowd again. I even started using drugs.
“In time, I got caught. When that happened, I was expelled from school. I couldn’t believe it had happened; I couldn’t understand why I did something so stupid and had thrown away my whole future. At least, that school was what I thought my future was supposed to be, but God had different plans.
“I went back home so broken. My mother and I had a hard time even speaking. She didn’t know what else to do, but thought somehow she would find an answer at church. It was there she found out about a program called The Fold…
“I was willing to consider going because I had been so broken and was eager for something to finally work. Coming into The Fold I wanted to learn about God and the promises He had to offer. I jumped into His Word and reading it taught me so much about life, things that I didn’t imagine were possible. I fell in love with Him and His Word is what continues to grow my passion each day.
“As I continued to grow and mature in God, I found it satisfying to actually be doing something that was good and of worth. God started to change my habits from bad to good. I no longer wanted to smoke or drink, but was eager to read the Bible and serve. Praise God, my precious Redeemer!
“Trials still came and will always come, but now I know how I should handle them. I saw the evidence that God was starting to clean up my life. One of the key verses for me, especially during these trials, has been James 1:2-4, because it talks about the fruit of the trials. It builds an unbreakable perseverance.
“As I look back on how much God has changed me, it almost makes me cry. Ephesians 5:15 says to make the most of every opportunity and to take advantage of that with which God has blessed you. My advice? Don’t waste any time or opportunity and persevere to the end.”
